Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

The Edmonton Oilers relived their glory years in spectacular fashion in November 2003 when they hosted the NHL’s first outdoor game, the inaugural Heritage Classic. This incredible event saw the Boys on the Bus, the Oilers’ Stanley Cup dynasty of the 1980s, reunited as part of the festivities leading up to Edmonton’s regular season game against the Montreal Canadiens at Commonwealth Stadium. Prior to the 4-3 loss to the Habs, the crowd of 57,167 was thrilled to see Gretzky, Messier and all the rest of those great Oilers teams take on the likes of Guy Lafleur and the Canadiens Old Timers in the MegaStars Game. This Oilers practice jersey is the only one worn by defenseman Randy Gregg during the Oilers Alumni team’s skate on November 21. It was as if the glory days had never come to an end when Gretz, Moose and Co. were reunited on the ice and the magic carried through the following day when the Oilers beat the Habs 2-0 in the MegaStars Game. Randy, who won five Stanley Cups in eight seasons with Edmonton, has signed in black marker on the white vinyl “2” on the back of his blue practice-worn jersey from the unique team set of 21, the only jerseys worn by the Oilers that day. There is also a partial signature between the numbers. Fantastic Oilers crest is sewn on the front with the NHL Center Ice patch on the right breast. “CCM” and size “58” patches are sewn on the left front tail and a size 58 flag tag sits in the back of the neck. A MeiGray registry patch is sewn inside the rear tail. Its number corresponds to the MeiGray LOA that accompanies this historic MegaStars Game signed practice-worn jersey.
