Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

Oh, the pucks this goalie saw while toiling for the woeful Washington Capitals of the 1970s. Fantastic piece of Caps history is this goalie equipment bag with number “1” heat screened in white on either end. Canvas bag in Washington’s red, white and blue patriotic colors has “Washington Capitals” heat screened in white on either side. Loads of circular team repairs, sewing fixes by the Caps’ equipment staff that were more effective at closing holes than the poor goalie whose equipment was hauled around in this zipper-closure bag. The No. 1 could be for Ron Low, who wore that number for the Caps during the expansion team’s first three seasons, or it may have been Gary “Suitcase” Smith, the next goalie to claim the uniform number. Any way you look at it, this is a really cool piece!
