Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

One look at this 1970s New York Rangers training suit and you can’t help but think about the fashion statement head coach Jean-Guy Talbot made behind the bench. This Rangers jacket and pants training suit evokes the one worn by Talbot during games when he coached the Blueshirts in the late 1970s. A brightly colorful Rangers shield embroidered crest is sewn on the left breast of the jacket which has Champions Products size L tagging in the neck with a blank flag tag below it. Zipper-front jacket has two diagonal pockets on the front and red, white and blue elasticized collar and cuffs. “New York” is spelled out in arched individual red and white double twill letters sewn on the back. The matching pants have Champion Products size L tagging in the back of the waistband which has an inner drawstring closure. The flared bottoms of the pant legs have button closures so that skates could fit. Flares along the front of the pant legs are missing some material, otherwise this 1970s Rangers training suit has been really nicely preserved. A cool link to one of the more unusual fashion statements in NHL coaching history.
