Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

Big Three defenseman Serge Savard was wearing this photo-matched Montreal Canadiens game-worn captain's jersey when he hoisted the Stanley Cup at the old Forum in 1979! Two sets of distinctive vertical folds in the upper part of the sewn-on CH crest on the front clearly appear in a pair of photos of Serge wearing this historic gamer, including an image of him brandishing hockey's coverted silver chalice. Another solid match is offered by the placement of the stitched-on red twill C on the top layer of the triple twill crest. The Savard photos clearly show how the right end of the bottom part of the C was sewn closer to the middle on the top edge as it approaches the tight open end, narrowing the exposure of the white twill as you move from left to right. The red thread stitching on the bottom edge curves distinctly downward as towards the right end. This particular set of home jerseys, with the creamy colored nameplate, was worn by the Habs in the 1978-79 playoffs and early on in the following season. Maska Superfil tagging remains in the neck along with a men's size XXL flag tag. A garter-style fight strap is sewn inside the back and small blue Maska logos are embroidered on both the left front and rear tails. Awesome game wear includes 18 team repairs on the left sleeve, seven on the right sleeve, six on the front and five on the red shoulder yoke. There is another pair of sewing fixes between Savard's retired No. 18 on the back, which has a long vertical slash of red paint transfer to the left of the numbers. There is a solid black slash on the bottom right front and the hammered sleeves are covered with red paint transfer, black marks, board burns and unrepaired cut, burn and slash holes. This incredible photo-matched and battle-scarred championship gamer comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
