The National League rookie-of-the-year in 1963, Cincinnati-born Pete Rose would go on to wrap out more base hits than any other player in the history of the major leagues, although his total stood at 309 when Topps issued this third-year card of the all-time great. Other than the obvious centering issue and consequent qualifier, this example of card #207 is a beauty, garnering NM-MT 8 recognition from PSA. Write-up on the back curiously leads off “Before joining the Reds in 1963, Pete was a torrid minor league slugger.”
