A nice crease-free EX-EX+ card of future Brooklyn Dodger Jim Gilliam, then with the Montreal Royals, highlights a group of 1952 Parkhurst cards featuring members of the AAA International League. Card #1 of Toronto Maple Leafs’ manager Joe Becker, (EX), is also notable, as is that of #76-Johnny Podres, which however only grades Good because of a nasty heavy crease and a couple of lighter ones. The remainder are mostly VG, VG+ and VG-EX and include #s 9, 14, 16, 17, 33, 47, 70, 72, 74, 80 (2), 82 (2), 84 (2), 89 and 92, with 75-Roebuck at F. Meanwhile a “Babe Ruth’s Big Book of Baseball” is a 5” by 7-1/2” paperback from 1935 and features a Quaker Oats notation on the back cover. VG-ish 64-page publication is joined by four little instructional booklets, with a head shot of the Babe and his facsimile autograph on the title page of each. Handling and wear to mention with the front cover of one of the 24-page affairs having become detached and the back cover missing. Babe Ruth endorsements of Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice are on the inside back covers of the other three – neat!
