A complete set of rather scarce mini posters (10” x 17-1/2”), albeit not in tiptop shape, highlights this ensemble from 1971-72, definitely enjoyed by its original owner. The thin, fragile paper posters exhibit miscellaneous flaws including a few with a small slit or two at the fold lines (Dryden, Horton, Hull, Tony O., Plante, Canadiens team, Keon), a few with evidence of tape/paper loss on the backs, (Orr, Lafleur, Martin, Tallon) and a few with stains or a small tear (Espo, Ratelle, Worsley, Unger). Best are Perreault, Cournoyer, Gilbert and four commons. A fabulous lineup though and marvelous images combined with scarcity and completeness make for a still desirable acquisition. Meanwhile, some mixing and matching is in store for the complete set of ’71-72 cards and the near set (approx. 20 cards shy of being complete), since the binder with “complete set” on it features dozens of real low grade examples which include scotch tape, torn backs, writing, etc. Some decent EX-ish cards in the near set to mention with however the stars tending to be rather rough or not present. Combining things, one will end up with two low grade Dryden and Lafleur RCs, with one of two Dionne rookies making it to VG. Both Orrs are P, with both Howe and Beliveau specials similar. One #111 checklist is present but torn and with tape on the back, while two marked #264 checklists include one not bad at otherwise VG and additional writing on the other. We spot only one example of Clarke, Perreault, Orr All-Star and Orr Trophy Winner. Completing is a set of booklet inserts, with writing on the back of each rendering them low grade as well. Hey, cards were made to have fun with and there’s still some to be had with these!
