Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
A smattering of pre-war fun here, with four classic sets represented and led by four “Ice Kings” including rookie cards of legends Nels Stewart and Babe Siebert, along with fellow Hall-of-Famers Bill Cook and Hap Day. All are in the VG neighborhood with no major creases, although a stain to the left of Stewart’s image lowers it compared to the rest. The #1 card of Dit Clapper has paper loss on the back, while 17-Mondou (“8” written on the back in pen) and 18-Raymond are also technically low grade because of evidence of having once been glued. Also from 1933-34 are nine O-Pee-Chee cards, led condition-wise by 29-Himes RC and 37-Murdoch at VG+ and followed by VG-ish examples of 22-Georges Mantha RC, 32-Day, 33-Busher Jackson RC and 57-Wilcox RC. In the F-G range are 1-Cox RC, 13-Ace Bailey RC and 46-Leduc RC. Five of seven creased ’33-34 Canadian Chewing Gum cards, all RCs, are further lowered by paper loss on the backs; Aurie, Bailey, Brydge (2) and Cox, with Brydson and Carson at F. Completing are the bottom halves of five ’36-37 OPC die-cut affairs with Lionel Conacher the biggest name but in the lowest grade. Cleanest are 124-Busher Jackson and 103-Fowler, albeit creased, while 109-Shibicky and 112-Harold Jackson include multiple creases.
