Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Far less often seen than their Canadian counterparts are the similar colorful little stamps offered in the United States at Acme Super Saver grocery stores during the 1974-75 season. All forty available 8-stamp panels are present here, with 28 of them not even opened! A dozen, along with one duplicate panel, have thus been opened, including the one featuring the key Bobby Orr stamp. That of course is Bobby`s likeness on each package of stamps, as well as on the cover of the album produced to hold them. The back page is a sheet of 20 stamps, with the bottom row of four featuring examples that were only available in the album and bringing the complete set total to 324 different stamps. The four stamps in question are those of Boston`s Dave Forbes, the Islanders` Gary Howatt, Joey Johnston of the Golden Seals (nice white skates!) and Detroit`s Guy Charron. Some roughness and small tears along the top and bottom of the cover are to report, along with an original price in magic marker on the cover, but overall, very acceptable and featuring swell color photos inside, along with dandy team write-ups.
