It’s always exciting when something shows up on our doorstep that we’ve never seen before and we know fellow hobbyists will also be excited and intrigued by this hobby light-shedding rarity. Referred to over the years as Junior Blue Tint cards by an anonymous issuer, the little cards featuring players from the Ontario and Quebec Junior A leagues in 1952-53, (the teams played an interlocking schedule that season), were, as this wax wrapper reveals, “Manufactured By Bedard & Donaldson Ltd.” of Quebec, the same outfit who in recent years has been confirmed as the manufacturer of Quebec Senior Hockey League cards known as “Laval Dairy” cards! The big set of 182 blue-tint cards features numerous young men who would go on to the pro ranks, including Henri Richard, Don Cherry, Al Arbour, Doug Mohns, Harry Sinden, Don McKenney, Charlie Hodge, Claude Provost, Phil Goyette, Kenny Wharram, Les Binkley, Larry Hillman and still others. Was this piece once wrapped around one of them?! Their teams are listed on the wrapper, which also informs that five cents got a youngster five cards and a piece of gum. Wrapper measures 5-1/4” by 5-3/4” and has miraculously survived in tear-free condition. It looks to have been flattened out for years, with fold lines and light creases not too detracting at all! Unheard of until now, this tantalizing, fabulous find is destined for one special collection. Please note that this rarity may be subject to a silent reserve.
