Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Breath-taking and thought-provoking is this fantastic find of a pretty much unheard of 1966-67 Topps "Test" hockey card display box, the first we've ever seen and first that we've had the pleasure of offering to the hobby. The "Test" cards had lighter colored wood-grain borders than their counterparts which were released in Canada, the latter also featuring bilingual text on the back as opposed to the English-only "Test" card backs. The wrappers that enveloped the "Test" cards were actually cello affairs, easily torn when opened and further contributing to their rarity. The box offered here has miraculously survived in impressive condition, with just a little paper loss on the top, where the "G" of "Gum" once was and where a small tape stain appears. Minor edge and corner wear is also to mention. The thought of this baby once holding 24 packs of elusive Topps Test cards, (we wonder how many Bobby Orr Test rookie cards there were!), is stirring. Good luck with this fascinating museum-worthy treasure.
