The Olympic Athletes' oath is displayed on the reverse of this 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Winter Games official participant's medal presented to Russian legend Valery Kharlamov. The late, great international hockey superstar took part in what would prove to be his last Olympics as the powerhouse Soviet national team was relegated to a silver medal by the "Miracle on Ice" upset win by Team USA. An image of a hockey player is featured among athletes from the Games' other winter sports on the front of this 3-inch diameter participant's medal. The inspirational words of the oath encircle the Lake Placid logo on the reverse. This nickel/silver composite comes in its original blue presentation box featuring the Lake Placid logo. Comes with an LOA from the Kharlamov family.
