Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

The signature of Sir Montagu Allan renders this stock certificate appealing indeed for those who have yet to land an autograph of the man who donated the Allan Cup. A Montreal sportsman and financier, Allan donated the trophy in 1908 after the Stanley Cup became a professional trophy. The esthetically pleasing certificate is for 122 shares of the Acadia Coal Company. It is dated November 21, 1914 with annotations and signed by the company's president, H. Montagu Allan in fountain pen and his signature is nice and clean. Measuring approximately 7 1/2" by 10 1/2", the stock share exhibits a few vertical light fold lines, minor wear/minor defects to the edges and a few transparent glossy stains, one of them above, and partially in, Allan's signature which doesn't really show much. Overall, it remains in excellent condition and will make for a prized possession. Allan was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945 and died six years later.
