Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

The New York Rangers made a sensational and short-lived departure from their traditional uniform in the late-1970s. Dave Maloney's 1977-78 Rangers game-worn jersey is from a distinctive set of mesh sweaters the Broadway Blueshirts wore during the 1978 Stanley Cup playoffs, when they were eliminated by Buffalo in the preliminary round. Also re-used by the Rangers in the 1978-79 pre-season, these rare gamers differed from the earlier version of the shield-crest jerseys, which were durene. Magnificent and colourful embroidered Rangers shield crest is sewn on the front and Gerry Cosby, laundry instructions, and size 50 tags are all sewn into the back of the neck. Heavy white mesh has a bluish hue and the top part of the loop of the blue twill "6" on the back is sliced straight through. The fight strap loop inside the back of the jersey is sewn up high, in the bottom part of the same number. Good game wear includes blue paint transfer, black marks and a nick on the right front tail, a cut in the bottom part of the "6" on the right sleeve and burns on both sleeves. An extremely desirable Rangers game-worn jersey!
