Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

Ray Bourque's 1998-99 Bruins game-worn jersey by Starter displays the C on the left breast and the team's 75th anniversary patch on the right. Boston's longest-serving captain scored 410 goals overall, the only defenceman in NHL history to break the 400-goal mark. His iconic number 77 was retired by both the Bruins and the Colorado Avalanche, the team he was with when he capped his Hall of Fame career with a Stanley Cup in 2001. This beauty from the final stages of his legendary tenure in Beantown has number "5" handwritten on the upper Starter label sewn in the back of the neck, which also displays NHL and size "56-R" tagging. Each sleeve has custom-shortened cuffs and both sleeves display team repairs. We count four sewing fixes in the black fabric on the left sleeve. The right sleeve yellow oval repair near the cuff and a round black-thread fix to the right of the rear shoulder seam on the upper back. More game wear shows in black marks on the Hub crest and rear tail, which has good pilling. This example was obtained by our consignor directly from a member of the Bourque family and will come with a detailed letter outlining the provenance.
