Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Terrific treasure here is highlighted by the nice big bold autograph of Howie Morenz, which joins a similar signature of Morenz's good friend Marty Burke on the blade of this approximately 17" mini stick. The two were traded to Chicago from Montreal, along with goalie Lorne Chabot, prior to the start of the 1934-35 season. Also autographing the blade in pencil were Johnny Gottselig, Bill Kendall (twice) and coach Clem Laughlin, the latter signature somewhat weak. Boldest are Paul Thompson and Tommy Cook sigs on the lower shaft, while the rest, starting at the top, are a mix and are those of Alex Levinsky, Don McFadyen, Norm Locking, Lolo Couture, Mush March and Louis Trudel, with Art Wiebe and trainer Ed Froelich signing the reverse of the blade. Morenz managed just eight goals that campaign but led Chicago in assists, before moving on to the Rangers the following season.
