Marking the Chicago Black Hawks' second Stanley Cup championship, this sensational gold pendant charm was presented to centre Carl Voss, an important contributor to the Hawks' 1938 playoff success after being signed as a free agent in December following time with an incredible seven different teams. After winning just 14 of 48 regular season tilts, Chicago's unlikely march to the Cup included 2-1 series wins over the Canadiens (3-2 in OT in game 3!) and NY Americans (1-0 double OT victory in game 2 to stay alive!), before their finals showdown with the favoured Maple Leafs. The teams split the first two games in Toronto, with Carl Voss then scoring in both of the next two in Chicago, his goal at 16:45 of the second period of game 4 being the Cup-winner in the 4-1 clincher. With eight American-born players in the lineup Chicago set a record, (that stood for nearly 50 years), for U.S. talent on a Cup-winner.
Two hockey players in action, along with "Stanley Cup Winners" appear on the front of this terrific keepsake which is just under one-inch in diameter, while classy scripted engraving on the reverse reads "Chicago Black Hawks - 1937-38 - Carl Voss." With "Birks 14K" stamped below, the piece has been preserved in marvelous condition with no unsightly flaws. A fantastic piece of Chicago hockey history!
