Guy Lafleur's photo-matched Team Canada 1976 Canada Cup game-worn jersey is back home after spending the last 36 years overseas. Guy was at the height of his game when the inaugural Canada Cup was held. The Flower had just won his second Stanley Cup in the spring of 1976. The Montreal Canadiens' four-game sweep of the two-time champion Philadelphia Flyers began a run of four straight Cups for the Habs. Guy! Guy! Guy! had scored 56 goals in 1975-76, his second of six straight 50-goal seasons. He earned his first of three straight Art Ross trophies with 125 points, a total the Hall of Fame right winger would reach each of the next four seasons! Needless to say, Guy was named to Team Canada. Featured in a lineup that boasted 17 members of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Guy had six points during the tournament, including a goal in Canada's 6-0 win over Czechoslovakia in the first game of the final at Maple Leaf Gardens. He got his fifth assist early in game two and nearly had the winner in overtime but Ivan Hlinka had dislodged the net and the tally was waved off, one of three Team Canada goals disallowed in the game! Darryl Sittler finally delivered an indisputable winner and Guy jumped into the pile of Team Canada superstars behind the Czechoslovakian net wearing this historic jersey.
Wondrous white knit with the cross-over style neck and reinforced elbows displays the heavily screened rubberized red name, numbers and Team Canada demi-leaf design. A size 44 Athletic Knit flag tag sits in the neck and Guy's surname is spelled out across the back shoulders above his famous number "10", which also appears on each sleeve. Two black marks to the left of the demi leaf on the left sleeve are matched to a photo of Guy wearing this jersey alongside Bobby Orr and Marcel Dionne. Guy traded away the jersey during the emotional celebratory scene when the two teams met at center ice to shake hands. Pete Mahovlich found the Czechoslovakian player with the jersey number matching his own and soon after, every other participant on the ice followed suit. Guy swapped shirts with forward Frantisek Cernik, who played 49 NHL games with Detroit in
1984-85. More game wear includes a black mark on the front of the left shoulder, blue paint transfer on the left rear tail, black marks on the "0" on the back, more marks on the sleeves which also display areas of red paint transfer, particularly on the back of the right sleeve, and. A great international gamer worn by the NHL's greatest superstar of the late-1970s, this superb jersey comes with Frantisek Cernik's signed letter of authenticity.
