Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Maurice "Rocket" Richard and Emile "Butch" Bouchard, two men who teamed to lead the Montreal Canadiens for a dozen years during the 1940s and '50s, are featured here on these ultra-desirable Bee Hive tie clips. The hockey stick tie clips joined rings and pins in a two-year promotion launched in 1949 by the St. Lawrence Starch Company, already popular and famous then for its Bee Hive photos. The gilt-lacquered sticks measure 3" long, with surface scratches a little more evident on the 3/4" Lucite dome picturing Richard, while that of the Bouchard piece features minor cracking at the lower edge. The tie clips, rings and pins were all available back in the day for 25 cents each, along with a product label or box top from the Port Credit, Ontario company. Splendid pieces to enhance a Bee Hive shrine!
