Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Historic puck is the one Maurice "Rocket" Richard put in the back of the net to score his 400th goal during the 1954-55 season. Maurice became the first player to reach the milestone two months into what would prove to be the most tumultuous campaign of his legendary career when he beat Chicago's Al Rollins in a 4-1 win over the Black Hawks on December 18. The Rocket extended his NHL regular season goals record with 38 that season and he was on his way to his first scoring title with 74 points when he was suspended for the remainder of the season and entire Stanley Cup playoffs, which led to the infamous Richard Riot on St. Patrick's Day in 1955. The front of the Art Ross Official NHL puck is signed "400ieme but Maurice Richard" on the rubberized orange octagon. Portions of the reverse and the sides have white paint residue with a spot on the left side of the face, which has a few dings on the top edge. Included is a newspaper clipping of Rocket holding his 400th goal puck.
