Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Interesting pucks here were tucked away for years by Hall of Famer Andy Bathgate, a right winger who toiled a dozen years for the lowly Rangers, nevertheless consistently ranking high in league scoring and earning NHL MVP honours in 1958-59. Oldest and most desirable is a Maple Leafs puck with a "Made in U.S.A." notation on the back logo and believed to be from the 1958-1962 time frame. Also nick and chip-free is a Rangers biscuit, (1962-64), without the notation and with a black outline on the reverse logo, contrary to the Leafs puck. An early souvenir Rangers puck has some cracking in the screened Rangers logo and a "Made in Japan" sticker on the otherwise blank back, while the screened Converse logo is no longer present on a rubber-crested Bruins puck which includes edge chips. Mr. Bathgate cannot recall what significance or milestones these represent, adding to the intrigue!
