Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Legendary hockey broadcaster Rene Lecavalier was presented with this marvelous gold ring by the Montreal Canadiens to commemorate the great Habs dynasty that won five straight Stanley Cups from 1956-60. Rene received this rare gold ring, only the second we have handled, which was presented to members of the record-setting team during a reunion at the Montreal Forum in 1984. The miniature Stanley Cup on the face is surrounded by "Cinq Coupes Stanley Consecutives" on the bezel. The left shank features the NHL shield. Above it are 19 and 60, while below the years 1957, 1958 and 1959 appear in relief. The right shank has "1956" and "R. Lecavalier" above a sculpted Canadiens logo. "Everest" and "10K" are stamped inside the size-7 band. Worn with obvious pride by Rene as per the light smoothing of the raised gold years on the shanks and a few marks on the edge of the tableau, it remains a rare wonder to behold.
