It only stands to reason that The King of Rings would come from the City of Champions. The team physician to two Edmonton sports dynasties, Dr. Gordon Cameron amassed one of the most enviable championship ring collections in the history of pro sports. Dr. Cameron earned a total of 16 championship rings, including Stanley Cup rings for each of the NHL Oilers’ five titles from 1984-90. These magnificent gold and diamonds creations were well-deserved for his efforts in keeping Wayne Gretzky and crew in the best of health, and they were right at home with the Grey Cup championship rings the good doctor earned for tending to the CFL Eskimos. He also earned rings for his work with Team Canada, the Edmonton Drillers soccer team, and Triple-A baseball’s Edmonton Trappers. Classic Auctions is honored to offer these 10 Edmonton championship rings from the personal collection of Dr. Gordon Cameron. Featured are all five of Dr. Cameron’s Oilers rings and five of his Eskimos rings, including the 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 rings from Edmonton’s CFL record of five straight titles as well as his 1987 Eskimos Grey Cup ring.
Gordon Cameron's awesome 1987 Edmonton Eskimos Grey Cup Championship 10K gold and diamond ring stands as testimony to Edmonton's claim as the "City of Champions". Though the Eskimos had not won a CFL title since their great Grey Cup dynasty made it five in a row in 1982, the NHL's Oilers had won their third Stanley Cup in four seasons in the spring of 1987. Edmonton claimed its second major title of the year with a thrilling 38-36 win over Toronto in the 75th Grey Cup. Eskimos kicker Jerry Kauric dreamed that he would boot the winner, and that's exactly what he did to secure the victory on November 29 in front of a crowd of 59,478 at Vancouver's B.C. Place Stadium. The two championship trophies were brought together at Commonwealth Stadium and Edmonton fans were in their glory with the opportunity to be photographed with both the Grey Cup and the Stanley Cup.
This splendid gold and diamonds championship ring commemorating the Eskimos' 1987 Grey Cup win was presented to Dr. Gordon Cameron, the longtime team doctor of both the Eskimos and Oilers. A total of 14 diamonds are set in a gold Eskimos logo sitting in a green stone on the face, including six diamonds of approximately 3-point and eight of about 1-point. The team name and "Grey Cup Champions" are spelled out on the bezel. The left shank has "Cameron" stamped above an Eskimos helmet in gold, green and white enamel. The right shank has "Eskimos vs. Argos" on a banner with the game score under each team's name. Below it an image of the Grey Cup set on a "75" background has '87 stamped on the body and CFL spelled out on the base. This impressive ring weighs about 35 grams and has "10K" marked twice inside its size 11 3/4 band. Beautifully preserved with light scratches from proud wear it comes with a signed LOA from the family.
