It only stands to reason that The King of Rings would come from the City of Champions. The team physician to two Edmonton sports dynasties, Dr. Gordon Cameron amassed one of the most enviable championship ring collections in the history of pro sports. Dr. Cameron earned a total of 16 championship rings, including Stanley Cup rings for each of the NHL Oilers’ five titles from 1984-90. These magnificent gold and diamonds creations were well-deserved for his efforts in keeping Wayne Gretzky and crew in the best of health, and they were right at home with the Grey Cup championship rings the good doctor earned for tending to the CFL Eskimos. He also earned rings for his work with Team Canada, the Edmonton Drillers soccer team, and Triple-A baseball’s Edmonton Trappers. Classic Auctions is honored to offer these 10 Edmonton championship rings from the personal collection of Dr. Gordon Cameron. Featured are all five of Dr. Cameron’s Oilers rings and five of his Eskimos rings, including the 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 rings from Edmonton’s CFL record of five straight titles as well as his 1987 Eskimos Grey Cup ring.
The Edmonton Eskimos' Grey Cup dynasty made it five championships in a row in 1982. This magnificent Grey Cup championship gold ring commemorating Edmonton's 32-16 win over Toronto was presented to Eskimos team doctor Gordon Cameron. Hugh Campbell's squad went 11-5 during the regular season and made it to their sixth straight Grey Cup game with a 24-21 win over Winnipeg in the West final. The our-time reigning champion Eskimos extended their CFL record to five straight titles, bouncing back from an early 14-0 deficit to crush the East champion Argonauts and their hometown fans in front of an Exhibition Stadium crowd of 54,741 in the 70th Grey Cup game on November 28.
This fantastic Grey Cup ring features a large cubic zirconia, approximately 50-point, set in a diamond-shaped gold setting in the middle of a green stone. The team name and "Grey Cup Champions" are spelled out on the bezel. The left shank displays "Cameron", and Eskimos helmet, and "TMDOC" engraved on it. The right shank has a Grey Cup with '82 stamped on the bowl, "CFL" spelled out on the base, and each of the four previous Grey Cup years stamped around it. The ring weighs about 30 grams with "Jostens" and "10K" stamped inside the size 12 1/2 band. Proud wear includes light scratches along with a few dings to the back of the band. Comes with a signed LOA from the family.
