It only stands to reason that The King of Rings would come from the City of Champions. The team physician to two Edmonton sports dynasties, Dr. Gordon Cameron amassed one of the most enviable championship ring collections in the history of pro sports. Dr. Cameron earned a total of 16 championship rings, including Stanley Cup rings for each of the NHL Oilers’ five titles from 1984-90. These magnificent gold and diamonds creations were well-deserved for his efforts in keeping Wayne Gretzky and crew in the best of health, and they were right at home with the Grey Cup championship rings the good doctor earned for tending to the CFL Eskimos. He also earned rings for his work with Team Canada, the Edmonton Drillers soccer team, and Triple-A baseball’s Edmonton Trappers. Classic Auctions is honored to offer these 10 Edmonton championship rings from the personal collection of Dr. Gordon Cameron. Featured are all five of Dr. Cameron’s Oilers rings and five of his Eskimos rings, including the 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 rings from Edmonton’s CFL record of five straight titles as well as his 1987 Eskimos Grey Cup ring.
Stunning and substantial Edmonton Eskimos 1981 Grey Cup championship ring was presented to team doctor Gordon Cameron. The Eskimos made it four straight titles with a thrilling 26-23 win over Ottawa in the 69th Grey Cup. Winners of the three previous Grey Cup games, Edmonton went 14-1-1 during the 1981 season and beat B.C. to advance to their fifth straight title game. Despite a 5-11 regular season, Ottawa emerged to represent the East and somehow took a 20-1 lead into halftime. Warren Moon got the Eskimos back on track as the upstart Rough Riders self-destructed in the second half and kicker Dave Cutler booted a 27-yard field goal at game's end to clinch Edmonton's fourth straight Grey Cup in front of a crowd of 52,478 at Montreal's Olympic Stadium.
A gorgeous diamond, approximately 20-point, sits in the top left corner of the face, one of four large stones, the three others are cubic zirconia, set around a gold Eskimos logo on the tableau. The team name is spelled out on the top and bottom bezels with four approximately 5-point cubic zirconias set on each side bezel. "Cameron" and "TMDOC" are above and below an Eskimos logo with "21" stamped in a circle on the left shank. The right shank displays "Grey Cup Champions" with "81" stamped on the bowl of the Cup with "CFL" on the base and the three previous championship years stamped below. This impressive Grey Cup ring weighs about 50 grams with "10K" and "Jostens" stamped inside the size 12 1/4 band. Light scratches on the bezel and band show that this beautifully preserved Grey Cup ring was worn with pride. Comes with a signed LOA from the family.
