It only stands to reason that The King of Rings would come from the City of Champions. The team physician to two Edmonton sports dynasties, Dr. Gordon Cameron amassed one of the most enviable championship ring collections in the history of pro sports. Dr. Cameron earned a total of 16 championship rings, including Stanley Cup rings for each of the NHL Oilers’ five titles from 1984-90. These magnificent gold and diamonds creations were well-deserved for his efforts in keeping Wayne Gretzky and crew in the best of health, and they were right at home with the Grey Cup championship rings the good doctor earned for tending to the CFL Eskimos. He also earned rings for his work with Team Canada, the Edmonton Drillers soccer team, and Triple-A baseball’s Edmonton Trappers. Classic Auctions is honored to offer these 10 Edmonton championship rings from the personal collection of Dr. Gordon Cameron. Featured are all five of Dr. Cameron’s Oilers rings and five of his Eskimos rings, including the 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 rings from Edmonton’s CFL record of five straight titles as well as his 1987 Eskimos Grey Cup ring.
Three big diamonds are set in the Edmonton Eskimos' logo on the face of this exquisite 1980 Grey Cup championship ring. Presented to Eskimos team doctor Gordon Cameron, this magnificent 10K gold and diamond creation commemorates Edmonton's third straight Grey Cup title. The Eskimos won 15 of 18 games in 1980, including a 48-10 dismantling of Hamilton in the November 23 title game in front of a crowd of 54,661 at Toronto's Exhibition Stadium. Warren Moon passed for 398 yards and four touchdowns in the most lopsided Grey Cup win in 57 years.
An absolutely stunning Grey Cup ring, this beauty displays three diamonds, each about 25-point, set in a gold Eskimos logo in the middle of a green stone on the tableau with "Edmonton Eskimos Grey Cup Champions" on the bezel. The right shank displays a Grey Cup with "'80" engraved on the bowl and "CFL" on the base, with "DW 21" at the bottom. The left shank has "Cameron" above an Eskimos helmet with "TMDOC" at the bottom, all engraved. The ring weighs about 45 grams and "10K" and "Jostens" are stamped inside the size 12 band. Beautifully preserved with light scratches and scuffs on the band from proud wear, it comes with a signed LOA from the family.
