It only stands to reason that The King of Rings would come from the City of Champions. The team physician to two Edmonton sports dynasties, Dr. Gordon Cameron amassed one of the most enviable championship ring collections in the history of pro sports. Dr. Cameron earned a total of 16 championship rings, including Stanley Cup rings for each of the NHL Oilers’ five titles from 1984-90. These magnificent gold and diamonds creations were well-deserved for his efforts in keeping Wayne Gretzky and crew in the best of health, and they were right at home with the Grey Cup championship rings the good doctor earned for tending to the CFL Eskimos. He also earned rings for his work with Team Canada, the Edmonton Drillers soccer team, and Triple-A baseball’s Edmonton Trappers. Classic Auctions is honored to offer these 10 Edmonton championship rings from the personal collection of Dr. Gordon Cameron. Featured are all five of Dr. Cameron’s Oilers rings and five of his Eskimos rings, including the 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 rings from Edmonton’s CFL record of five straight titles as well as his 1987 Eskimos Grey Cup ring.
Wondrous 1979 Edmonton Eskimos Grey Cup championship gold ring was presented to team doctor Gordon Cameron. The Eskimos won their second straight Grey Cup title with a 17-9 win over the Alouettes on November 25 in front of a crowd of 65,113 at Montreal's Olympic Stadium. Edmonton went 12-2-2 during the regular season before beating Calgary in the West final. Eskimos greats Tom Wilkinson and Warren Moon each threw touchdown passes against Montreal as Edmonton prevailed for the sixth time in eight Grey Cup showdown between the two teams.
Gorgeous tableau features six small diamonds, each approximately 0.5-point, set in football-shaped gold with an approximately 25-point cubic zirconia that displays scratches in the middle, all sitting in the middle of a big green stone. "Grey Cup Champions" is spelled out in raised gold on the bezel. The left shank reads "Cameron" across the top with the Eskimos' logo and "Doctor" below it. A Grey Cup with "'79" stamped on it is on the right shank along with "Edmonton" and "CFL Eskimos". "Jostens 10K" is stamped inside the size 12 1/2 ring, which weighs about 28 grams. Aside from the damage to the big zirconia stone on the face, this championship bauble is beautifully preserved with obviously proud wear in the form of light scratches on the band and a small ding to the inner gold band of the top of the bezel. Comes with a signed letter of authenticity from the family.
