Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Thought and memory-provoking memorabilia from the famous '72 Canada-Russia Series are these Russian nesting dolls, three of the various size wooden dolls given to Team Canada players by their Soviet counterparts prior to Game 4 of the series, played in Vancouver on September 8, 1972. A full-page colour photo of five Canadian players holding their dolls just after receiving them in the customary pre-game exchange of gifts is included in the classic "Twenty-Seven Days in September" book (page 67). Thin wooden two-piece affairs have vibrant colours, with the smallest standing three inches high, followed by one just over five inches and the largest at 7-1/2". We spot a half-inch crack in the edge of the top half of the largest doll, but otherwise, these have survived in like-new condition. Originally part of the Alan Eagleson collection, they're stellar pieces to add to a Summit Series shrine and will come with an LOA from Classic.
