Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Amazing Summit Series relic is this Team Canada 1972 team-signed Guy Lapointe game-used stick. Our consignor is a relative of goalie Ed Johnston, who brought Guy's Canada-Russia Series special model Victoriaville gamer back from Russia and gave it to a member of his family. A total of 24 black marker signatures sit along one side of the shaft, including Bobby Orr, who traveled with the team to Moscow. The Orr, Tony Esposito and Clarke signatures at the bottom of the shaft are the cleanest, nice and bold. Other HOFers who have signed include Lapointe, Mikita, Dryden, Park, Frank Mahovlich and Gilbert, with some water damage but most easily legible. Historic gamer with "5 G Lapointe" stamped on the shaft retains Guy's original tape job on the knob, which is custom-shaved, and a single strand of white tape on the blade. Loads of game use shows in black marks and red goalpost paint transfer low on the shaft, which is missing its distinctive red and white stripes. The top edge of the blade has a crack and is chipped but overall the stick is solid and it was definitively right in the middle of the action 40 years ago in Moscow!
