Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

This magnificent replica of Lord Stanley's coveted trophy presented to Wayne Cashman commemorates the Boston Bruins' triumphant return to professional hockey's pinnacle in the spring of 1972. After their disappointing playoff loss the previous year, the big, bad Bruins were the pride of the NHL in '71-72, chalking up 54 wins and 119 points as Phil Esposito banged in 66 goals and Bobby Orr took the Norris and Hart trophies. The pair of superstars finished one-two in the scoring race with Espo claiming his second Art Ross Trophy. Come playoff time, the Bruins were not to be denied, taking care of the Maple Leafs in five games, sweeping the Blues and then ousting the Rangers in six. Orr scored his second Cup-winning goal in three years, became the first two-time winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy and all was well again in Boston. Cash scored three of his four playoff goals in the final, including the last two tallies of the game in the Bruins' 3-0 win in the Cup-clincher at Madison Square Garden. Wayne's full name and those of his teammates are engraved in two columns on the barrel of this exquisite silver-plated keepsake, which stands a majestic 13" tall. General Manager Milt Schmidt and coach Tom Johnson are among the team's executives whose names are inscribed above those of Orr, Espo, Bucyk, Cheevers, Sanderson, Hodge, Stanfield, McKenzie and the wonderful supporting cast. Trophy has been nicely preserved, acquiring a slightly golden patina with age. There are a couple of tiny dings to the barrel and very small instances of silver loss inside the bowl. Also to note is one tiny nail missing at the bottom front of the trophy and a small vertical crack up from bottom of the barrel in the back. The green felt remains on the bottom of the black wood base, which has a few paint chips on one side. The ultimate trophy to own and display, this one comes from Wayne Cashman's personal collection and will be accompanied by his signed letter of authenticity.
