Bobby Orr scored his second Stanley Cup-winning goal in the spring of 1972 and Wayne Cashman finished off the Boston Bruins' 3-0 clincher by scoring the last two goals of Game 6 at Madison Square Garden. Offered is Wayne's 1971-72 Boston Bruins Stanley Cup championship 10K gold and diamonds ring, a spectacular creation by Balfour which commemorates the Big, Bad Bruins' second Cup in three years. The Bruins set about casting aside their upset loss to Montreal the previous spring by disposing of the Maple Leafs in five games in the first round before sweeping the Black Hawks in four straight to reach the Cup final. Boston took three of the first four games against the Rangers but the Blueshirts denied another Boston Garden Cup celebration by forcing a sixth game at home. Orr's power-play goal in the first period may have been less dramatic than his overtime winner two years earlier but it was just as effective as Cash scored twice in the third to seal another Bruins championship. The eye-catching glimmer of 17 diamonds shines out from the tableau. A large diamond in the middle is surrounded by four more slightly smaller ones in each corner, four more smaller still above and below and on either side, with four still smaller diamonds arrayed in a row on either side of the face. "Boston Bruins" is spelled out in raised gold across the upper bezel with "World Champions" along the lower bezel. "1972" appears in raised gold on the right shank with the Stanley Cup in relief below it with banners that read "Stanley Cup" and "Champions" on either side and the result of the final "Boston 4 N.Y. 2" on the bottom. The left shank displays the Prince of Wales Trophy below "W. Cashman" with scrolled "League" and "Champions" on either side and Wayne's number "12" in relief at the bottom. "Balfour 10K" stamp remains inside this size 7 1/2 ring which Cash clearly displayed with great pride as evidenced by various surface dings and nicks and light smoothing to the relief. A magnificent piece, this 1972 Bruins Stanley Cup ring comes with its original Balfour presentation box as well as Wayne Cashman's signed letter of authenticity.
