After winning Olympic gold and silver in Rome in 1960, Tamara Press claimed both the shot put and discus titles four years later in Japan. Offered here is the Soviet track and field legend's Tokyo 1964 Olympic official competitor's badge. Displaying a strikingly simple design that features the Japanese games' full sun logo, the badge measures 2 1/4" x 1 3/8" with "Competitor" spelled out on a blue bar along the bottom beneath Tokyo 1964 and the Olympic rings. The two ribbons remain at angles along the bottom edge as they were originally made, each with nicks along the right edge and lightly faded in the front. Comes with a signed LOA from Tamara Press.
Tamara Press will donate a substantial portion of her proceeds from this auction to her Moscow-based “Physical Education and Health” charitable foundation, which facilitates material and emotional support for sporting veterans and also provides help to orphanages and similar children’s institutions.
