A Cortina d'Ampezzo 1956 Olympic participation medal is featured in this lot of three. Housed in its original yellow box with the Olympic rings on the cover, the medal measures 1 3/4" in diameter. The Olympic motto, "Citius Altius Fortius" is spelled out around snowflake on one side with "Cortina 1956" at the bottom. The other side has VII Olympic Winter Games spelled out in Italian around the image of an athlete and the Olympic torch. This original 1956 Olympic participation medal is from longtime Soviet Union alpine skiing team trainer Yury Sergeveyich, as is a Val Gardena/Groden 1970 alpine skiing world championship participation medal. Rounding out the lot is an impressive 1966 Coppa Cesare Lo Forte basketball trophy won by the Soviet Union in Italy. Comes with an LOA. 1970 alpine skiing world championship participation medal measures 2 3/8” in diameter and comes in its original presentation box. The event logo is displayed on one side along with world alpine skiing championships in both Italian and German, and the locations two names based on the respective countries, Val Gardena for Italy and Groden for Germany;
A plaque in Italian on the wood base of the majestic 19” tall basketball trophy reads “19th Cesare Lo Forte Cup, August 8-10, 1966.” The Soviet Union won the international tournament held in Messina, Sicily with an 86-68 win over the Italian Simmenthal team.
