Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Hockey pioneer Willie O’Ree is featured in this lot of 1962-63 WHL Los Angeles Blades premium player pictures. O’Ree, the NHL’s first black player, and longtime NHLer Fleming Mackell, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Maple Leafs, are each pictured four times respectively among the 22 vintage Blades pictures offered here. Each of the 8x6 premium pictures on thin textured paper stock sponsored by Union Oil features an artist’s rendition of the Blades player on one side with their respective names on the bottom and the team logo in the bottom right corner. The reverse features the player’s vital statistics along with lengthy bios. Eight Blades are featured here: Willie O’Ree (4), Fleming Mackell (4), Robert Solinger (3, one with light stains in middle of top edge), Leo LaBine (2), Gordon Haworth (2), Ed Diachuk (3), Jack Bownass (3) and Bruce Carmichael.
These crease-free pictures approaching 50 years in age have been nicely preserved and are relatively clean with these four individual exceptions: One LaBine with one with blue ballpoint squiggles in bottom right corner, one Solinger with small stains in the middle of top edge, and one each of Bownass and Diachuk with light stains.
