Big Bob Dailey was presented with this Ontario Hockey Association Champions award as a member of the 1972-73 Toronto Marlboros. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound defenseman from Kingston, Ont. was drafted ninth overall by Vancouver in the summer of 1973 after posting 64 points as the Marlies finished first in the OHA with a 47-7-9 mark. Coached by HOFer George Armstrong and boasting a lineup featuring Mark and Marty Howe and Mike Palmateer, the Marlboros went on to win the Memorial Cup, clobbering Quebec 9-1 in the final at the old Montreal Forum. The NHL’s tallest player of his day, Dailey was dealt to Philadelphia midway through the 1976-77 season, his fourth with the Canucks. One of the Flyers’ top defensemen of the late 1970s and early ‘80s, Dailey shattered his ankle 12 games into the 1981-82 season, forcing him to retire at the age of 28. This Major Junior “A” championship award features a gold-coloured “OHA Champions” crest encased in a 4” x 3 1/4" block of Lucite that is a shade under 1” thick. The gold-coloured plaque affixed to the outer bottom edge of the award reads “Toronto Marlboro, Major Junior ‘A’, 72-73, Bob Dailey”. This magnificent Marlboros OHA champions award comes with an LOA.
