Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Maurice Richard, Bobby Hull, King Clancy, Gerry Cheevers and Max Bentley are among the Hall of Fame autographs featured in this collection of five signed vintage hockey programs. Fellow HOFers Stan Mikita, Norm Ullman, Father David Bauer, Red Storey, Frank Selke, Elmer Lach and Tony Esposito have also signed among others, including the likes of Maple Leafs fan favorite Wild Bill Ezinicki and Team Canada 1972 members Dennis Hull and Pat Stapleton.
Bentley and Ezinicki have signed in pencil on the cover of an issue of a Maple Leafs program for the Saturday, January 15, 1949 game against the Rangers in Toronto. Complete vintage program’s lineup page is present though detached from the rusty staples in the centerfold. Nicely preserved overall with horizontal folds/creases in the middle that do not diminish the autographs.
Bruins great Gerry Cheevers and fellow HOFer Father David Bauer are among the members of the Toronto St. Mike’s who have signed their roster in their centerfold page of a 1961 Memorial Cup program. Cheevers has signed in ballpoint across the bottom of his headshot and Bauer has signed below his photo on a page signed by the likes of Arnie Brown, Terry O’Malley, Roger Galipeau, Billy MacMillan, Dunc MacDonald, Bruce Draper, Jack Cole, Larry Keenan, Paul Conlin, Andre Champagne (red ink), Dave Draper, Barry MacKenzie, Terry Clancy, Jim Gregory, Gary Dineen, and others. This 51-year-old program with a vertical crease through the middle is nicely preserved overall, with a couple of bands of scotch tape placed on the spine, which has a detached lower staple.
Bobby Hull stood alone among snipers so it is only appropriate that the Golden Jet’s dedicated autograph is the lone signature inside the cover of this complete Vancouver Canucks Hockey Magazine from October 1969. The WHL Canucks put the most famous of their NHL opponents, Hull and Stan Mikita, on the cover, which has some creases and is covered with Black Hawks autographs. A total of three HOFers – Bobby Hull, Mikita and Esposito – have signed along with the late Keith Magnuson. Other Black Hawks signatures on the cover include Denis DeJordy, Mike McMahon, Ray McKay, Lou Angotti, Dennis Hull, Doug Mohns, Pat Stapleton, Eric Nesterenko, Chico Maki, Howie Menard, Doug Jarrett, Jean-Paul Bordeleau, Terry Caffery, Cliff Koroll, Jim Wiste and Brian Lavender.
NHL alumni have always been willing to lace 'em up for a good cause and did so on January 17, 1969 in Winnipeg as the Montreal Oldtimers took on their Western counterparts. The crease-free, clean and complete program from that game is signed on the cover in ballpoint by four HOFers –Lach, Richard, Storey and Selke. Among the other signatures are Pete Morin and Joe Cooper.
Deceased HOFer King Clancy has signed in light but legible pencil on the cover of a 1971-72 Maple Leafs program. Fellow HOFer Norm Ullman has signed in black marker three times, including on the cover with the notation “HOF 1982” and on his photos on pages 18 and 25. The cover is also signed in ballpoint by Pierre Jarry and one other. The lineup page from the 2-2 tie against the Black Hawks at MLG on Saturday, March 18, 1972 has come loose from the program’s centerfold staples. The outside quarter-page upper corner of pages 29-30 has been cut, otherwise this 40-year-old program is complete.
