Fascinating foursome here was kept with pride over the years by Charlie Hodge, with a CCM/Art Ross Tyer puck from the netminder's second career NHL shutout leading the way. The faded "1957-58 NHL Canadiens 6 Detroit 0 October 13, 1957" details are decipherable on a piece of tape applied to one side of the puck, which had an orange stripe painted around its side. A chip and soiling to the visible logo are to mention, while three CCM/Art Ross Tyer (Buffalo) pucks from earlier in the decade accompany it. Two are from 1952-53 and the season Hodge, while backstopping the Montreal Junior Canadiens, led the Quebec junior league with 35 wins and five shutouts. One has a "Citadelles Jan 20-53" notation on white tape on the otherwise blank back, with "Junior Royals 52-53" on the other. Obvious game use with a couple of small chips in the former and a little skate slice in the latter. Completing things is a biscuit from Charlie's first year of pro hockey, '53-54, when he helped the Cincinnati Mohawks to the International Hockey League championship. Details applied to the back of that puck reveal a 1-0 overtime win over Johnstown in the IHL finals, March 28, 1954, which was Hodge's second shutout of the playoffs and 12th overall on the season, one that saw him earn IHL Second All-Star Team status with his league-leading ten shutouts. From Charlie Hodge's personal collection, each puck will come with a letter of authenticity signed by Mr. Hodge. Very cool indeed!
