Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Splendid production captures Frederick Arthur Stanley, the man whose legacy to the hockey world is well documented and recounted time and again. Taken a couple of years after Stanley's five years in Canada as its Governor General, the approximately 7" by 9" photo is applied to a sturdy cardboard mat measuring just over 10" by 14". A facsimile "Derby" signature appears beneath the Russell & Sons photograph, as well as "The Right Honorable The Early of Derby, G.C.B.". The upper mat has a 1 1/2" tear and aside for light browning and small defects along the edges of the mat, it remains in superb condition. The piece is the likes of which should be in every hockey historian's collection.
