Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
It's always a thrill for us to handle a piece that was handled and signed by the one and only donator of hockey's ultimate prize, the trophy that over time has become the most recognizable in all of professional sports. And imagine, it was first a trophy awarded to amateurs! Oh, we could rant and rave about the history of it all, but most of you/us hockey aficionados know all about it by now. So then, for those of you who have yet to land a coveted signature of Frederick Arthur Stanley comes this splendid "cut". It includes an intriguing "The Lord in Waiting - Buckingham Palace," with F.A. signing "Stanley" in the lower left, nearby which "Lord Stanley - Lancashire" appears. The cut measures approximately 2-1/2" by 4-1/2" and has that small section from the envelope that includes a black wax sealant which includes an undecipherable coat of arms. On the reverse is a piece of scotch tape to repair a 3/4" tear, along with blue paper at the four corners where it was once pasted. In summary, a perfect piece to match up with a photograph of the man whose hockey legacy will continue to be passed on for generations.
