This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Soviet hockey and soccer great Viktor Shuvalov wore this vertically striped jersey while competing for the CCCP Air Force soccer team between 1949-55. A Russian hockey pioneer, Shuvalov helped spearhead the Soviets' international breakthrough when he won an IIHF world championship gold medal in 1954 and Olympic gold two years later in Cortina D'Ampezzo. A great athlete, he was also a star soccer player. Offered here from Shuvalov's personal collection is this lightweight blue-and-white CCCP Air Force jersey which has evidence of a number removal on the back. Two printed pictures showing Soviet players wearing this particular style of jersey are included, along with Viktor Shuvalov's signed LOA.
