Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Sensational hockey award of the day brings forth the story of legendary coach Toe Blake's pre-NHL time at the helm of the Valleyfield Braves of the Quebec Senior Hockey League. Following the playoff championship in the spring of 1951, Valleyfield defeated the Sydney Millionaires 4-games-to-2 and then met the Toronto St. Michael's Monarchs for the Alexander Cup, awarded to the top "major" senior team in Canada. Valleyfield triumphed and members of the squad received handsome medals like this. A hockey player, with "Alexander Cup" above and "C.A.H.A." below is featured on the front, while "Valleyfield Braves 1951 H. Blake Coach" is engraved on the back where "Trophy Craft Gold Filled" is stamped. A little over an inch in diameter, in excellent condition and once owned by a hockey immortal - nice!
