Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Sensational turn of the century hockey memento calls for a quick history lesson. The Montreal Shamrocks were defending Stanley Cup champions when the 1899-1900 hockey season began, having been awarded Lord Stanley's trophy as champions of the Canadian Amateur Hockey League the previous season and successfully defending the Cup in a challenge by Queen's University. The Shamrocks then defeated the Winnipeg Vics in a mid-season best-of-three challenge in February, 1900, again won the CAHL title that season and took care of Halifax 10-2 and 11-0 in a challenge in March. A few light surface scratches on the front of the rare 1-1/4" in diameter pin, produced by Whitehead & Hoag of Newark, NJ. Stalwarts for the Shamrocks were HOFers Harry Trihey, Arthur Farrell and Fred Scanlon.
