Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
From another wonderful time in Winnipeg Jets history comes this personal miniature of "The Avco World Trophy" and in rather well-preserved condition, better than the majority that we've handled in the past. Executive Bill Robinson's name joins that of the team on one of the metal plaques applied to one side, with team members' names listed in two columns on another. The top of the trophy, which has an overall height of just under 13", includes a pewter globe of the world encased in Lucite, upon which a silver-plated bowl sits. In excellent condition with some cleanable tarnish on the interior of the bowl to mention, the Balfour-produced memento has a company decal beneath the base, the edge of which exhibits intermittent light tarnish. Led by the likes of Hull, Ulf and Kent Nilsson, Hedberg and Guindon, the Jets completed a four-game sweep of New England in the finals, winning the clincher 5-3 in front of hometown fans. After a 50-win, 102-point season, the Larry Hillman-coached Jets had first knocked off Birmingham in five semi-final games. An LOA from Classic will be included with this fabulous piece of WHA/Jets history.
