In 1907, leagues in Canada voted to allow professional players within their ranks, signaling the demise of the International Hockey League based out of the States. Players would soon trickle back across the border, lured by the large paychecks that had earlier made the IHL so attractive. This original presentational cabinet photograph displays the final 1906-07 incarnation of Portage Lakes Lakers of the IHL, the world's first professional hockey team. Still in the line-up are Hall-of-Famers Fred "Cyclone" Taylor and Bruce Stuart with regulars Fred Lake and Grindy Forester. Portage Lakes once again captured the Championship of the International League in 1907. Extremely scarce, these large cabinet photos were produced to be presented to the team members. Original photo image measures 11"x14" with a matted size of 16" x 20". In excellent condition with areas of light staining on the matte. An attractive tribute to hockey's early history.
