Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
This vintage team photo of the 1909-10 Renfrew Creamery Kings is a smaller postcard version of the cabinet photo that is known in the hobby. This is essentially the team whose founding would ultimately lead to the beginnings of the NHL seven years later. Rebuffed in his bid to join the Eastern Canada Hockey Association in 1909, Renfrew team owner J. Ambrose O'Brien launched the National Hockey Association, the precursor of today's NHL. This 3.5" by 5.5" real-photo montage includes "Millionaires" future HOF'ers Cyclone Taylor, Fred Whitcroft, Frank and Lester Patrick and Newsy Lalonde and is nicely presented with a divided postcard verso with note, address and canceled one-cent postage stamp. In very good to excellent condition with no significant damage or creasing.
