Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012

Puzzling piece appears at first glance to be an Isles gamer circa the early-Seventies and has the expected tie-neck styling and Rawlings size 46 tagging in the collar. The New York Islanders crest, in triple-color tackle twill, is the on the chest but the mystery begins with the color of the collar. The expected orange collar is in white on this example, raising immediate questions. Is it a well-made vintage store model or a salesman’s sample shirt? The number 18 on the back would suggest an attribution to Eddie Westfall and the shirt does show typical game use with black stick marks and splashes of red board paint transfer at the cuffs with light staining on the lower front. An interesting jersey with tales to tell.
