Rare name-on-back style worn by netminder Gilles Meloche while with the California Golden Seals in 1974-75. Meloche, who came over to the Seals for the start of the 1971-72 season, saw the lion's share of goaltending duties for the club and would follow the team on to Cleveland when they became the Barons in 1976-77. This home white knit gamer by General Athletic and Gunzo's was worn by Gilles Meloche during the 1974-75 NHL season. Sourced recently from the Gunzo collection, the shirt retains the Gunzo's of River Forest, Ill. tagging in the collar with a size 48 fly tag below and a faded General label beneath. The v-neck is split at the center and game wear is quite evident with numerous black stick marks on the right sleeve to go along with a series of darker stains which appear to be blood. Additional stick marks can be found over on the opposite arm and the front of the shirt is splattered with smaller drops of staining. A true treat is the individually-applied lettering above the back numbers that spells out "Meloche". Sewn in a style similar to what the team used on their green and gold gamers from the early Seventies, this shirt represents the only known example of the newer (UCLA) style uniform with individually-applied lettering to exist in the hobby. Although the team was known to have utilized nameplates for selected televised games, and a Joey Johnston shirt with a plate does exist, this previously-undiscovered style worn by the franchise's top goaltender will certainly garner interest. Will come with a letter of authenticity.
