Chosen first overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 1996 NHL draft in St. Louis, defenseman Chris Phillips wore this Lethbridge Hurricanes jersey during the second half of the 1996-97 Western Hockey League season. Phillips, who surpassed the 1,000-game milestone with the Senators in 2011-12, started his final junior season with the Prince Albert Raiders who traded him to Lethbridge. The team LOA that accompanies this Hurricanes game-worn jersey states that Chris made his Lethbridge debut on January 29, 1997 against the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Hurricanes went on to represent the WHL in the Memorial Cup, losing in the final to the host Hull Olympiques. Phillips, who won the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s top defenseman, was named to the Memorial Cup all-star team. Phillips’ 1996-97 Lethbridge Hurricanes alternate captain’s gamer has a Maska and size 52 flag tags in the neck. Hurricanes 10th anniversary patch is sewn on the left shoulder and the team crest sewn on the front is blue and red embroidery on white twill. Number 77 on the back and both sleeves is sewn-on twill as are the stars on the front and sleeves and the A on the left breast. Surname letters are blue vinyl heat-pressed on a sewn-on nameplate. Fight strap is whole and complete and CHL and CCM logos are embroidered on the rear tail, which has a thick 1 1/2" team repair to the right of the CCM logo. More game wear shows in black marks on the front of the right sleeve with more on the back and the back of both sleeves.
