Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
This vintage scrapbook, compiled by a hockey fan over 80 years ago, contains 78 pages of summaries and box scores from the NHL's 14th season, 1930-31, starting from opening night. This was the Philadelphia Quakers' first and only NHL season, and their struggles (4 wins in 44 games) are well documented, as is Howie Morenz winning the scoring title, with Toronto's "Kid Line" finishing third, fourth and sixth. King Clancy makes his debut as a Leaf, and Nels Stewart scores two goals in 4 seconds; a record that would stand for the next 75 years. Neatly done and in terrific condition for its age - solidly bound with creamy white pages - this is a rare and detailed record of a formative season in the NHL's early history. Also includes details of the Canadian-American League (ancestor of the AHL) playoff Finals between Boston and Springfield, featuring several future NHL'ers.
