Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012

On February 3, 1944, Red Wings star Syd Howe became the first player in the modern era to score six goals in a game, as his team demolished the New York Rangers 12-2 at the Detroit Olympia. Only two NHL players (Red Berenson in 1968 and Darryl Sittler in 1977) have accomplished the same feat in the 68 years since that memorable evening. Offered here is the complete program from the game, along with an original newspaper file photo showing Howe shaking hands post-game with linemate Don Grosso, who had a goal and six assists to tie what was then a single game point record. The program is in nice Ex+ condition, with three sets of tiny binding holes on its left edge.
